If it is a clear night on a chilly evening, you can throw on a cosy jumper and relax beside the glowing embers of your outdoor fire pit. OUR ADVICE

When it comes to choosing a garden fire pit for your terrace or patio, there are many things to consider. With a little bit of research, you can easily find the perfect fire pit for your needs. You need to think about the kind of fire pit you want and how it will look in your outdoor area. Another important element is choosing the type of fuel you are going to use. Aside from all of the logistics associated with buying a fire pit, it is an affordable luxury to have, and it is guaranteed to encourage you to spend more time outside appreciating your garden and its surroundings.

WHAT STYLE OF FIRE PIT BEST FITS YOUR SPACE?

CAST IRON FIRE PIT

In terms of size, a cast iron fire pit does not take up much space making it suitable for most gardens and terraces. You are going to want one that is durable and will withstand repeated use. Our cast iron fire pits differ from each other in subtle ways, but these subtle differences are worth knowing before making your decision. Regarding stability, we have fire pits mounted on between 3 and 4 steel legs. This means that your fire pit is raised from the ground and reduces the amount of heat in contact with the ground below it. It is extremely beneficial to have a raised fire pit because it lessens the risk of your favourite stone tiles or grass being affected by the temperature of the fire. For a more authentic look, a fire pit mounted on a cast iron stand will perform the same protective duty as steel legs, but it provides a different aesthetic.

Our fire pits are made in large bowl shapes which allows the heat from the flames to radiate further than a typical outdoor fireplace. Their circular shape makes them an ideal match for a garden sofa set. The glowing light from a fire pit would bounce beautifully off of a rattan or bamboo-effect sofa. Instead of being forced to abandon your terrace because of the cold, you can set a match to dry logs of wood and set the mood for meaningful conversations and memorable nights.

OUTDOOR FIREPLACE

An outdoor fireplace provides a different ambience to a fire pit. It is less imposing and instead of everyone being able to feel the heat from it, you need to sit more strategically to feel the full effect of its warmth. The chimney makes it more difficult to position the fireplace as the centrepiece of your garden furniture, however, all is not lost! Choosing an outdoor fireplace for your terrace or patio gives you the same sensation of sitting in your living room. The slow burning wood and functioning chimney will make your experience of sitting outside more efficient. The grills surrounding the fireplace ensure that the heat is distributed evenly. Having a chimney is reassuring because the smoke from the fire is redirected accordingly. The vertical, tall shape of the fireplace makes it an ideal companion for a garden table set. When you have finished your meal and the pace of the conversation has lulled into gentle whispers and hushed lines, you and your friends can admire and appreciate the burning, orange glow of the fireplace.

Our outdoor fireplaces and garden fire pits all offer a great solution to your outdoor heating needs. The fire pits are nostalgic items to have on your patio or terrace. The cast iron curve of their bowl is reminiscent of the makeshift fireplaces of history. Their understated design removes the focus from the pit itself and emphasises the picturesque, romantic sight of burning wood. You are more aware of the physical structure of an outdoor fireplace because of its useful features and prominent grills. These details might be more visually disrupting than a cast iron fire pit, however, their functions are essential. Overall, they are equally capable of providing you with enough heat to sit outside during the colder seasons, you simply have to decide which style you prefer to look at and how important a chimney is to you.

WHAT SIZE FIRE PIT DO YOU NEED?

There’s no definitive answer when it comes to the best size for a fire pit. It ultimately depends on how you plan to use your fire pit and what type of atmosphere you are hoping to create. That being said, there are a few ways to determine what size fire pit you might need. If you’re looking for a fire pit that’s big enough to accommodate a large group of people, our 90cm cast iron pit would be a good choice for entertaining. If you want a more intimate setting, our 56cm fire pit would be suitable. You should also consider your garden furniture when you are choosing the size of your fire pit. If your terrace is quite small, it might not be the best option for you to have a larger fire pit. Not only would it increase the impact of the heat against the material of an outdoor sofa or armchair, but it would also look out of place and oversized beside smaller patio furniture. Our outdoor fireplace is slenderer and would fit almost anywhere.

WHAT TYPE OF FUEL DO YOU WANT TO USE?

Unlike an electric heater, an outdoor fire pit or fireplace does not need to be connected to any fuel source. This means that they are portable, and you can move them around as you please.

Wood is the most traditional type of fuel for fire pits. It’s easy to find and usually inexpensive, but it does require more effort to get started than other types of fuel. All of our fire pits are wood-burning, and we feel it is hard to beat the natural smell and view of a hardwood log burning and charring.

Natural gas fire pits are a cleaner option and are faster to start. You can control the flame on most gas fire pits, but they are expensive, and it can be frustrating when your gas bottle runs out at the most inconvenient moments.

FIRE PIT MAINTENANCE

Fire pits are higher maintenance compared to electric patio heaters. You have to empty the ash regularly and clean the cast iron if you want to keep it looking new for as long as possible. Electric heaters require not much else other than plugging them in and unplugging them, however, they do not have the same classic appearance as a wood-burning fire. The flickering light of the fire pit seems to be worth the extra effort. Even though you still have to maintain the fire pit to some degree, our products have clever features that make life a little easier for you.

A black cast iron fire pit is built to last and is heat resistant. The steel legs used to raise the fire pit from the ground prevent it from tipping over. Some of our fire pits have an inset grill preventing ash from collecting. This will keep your flame burning brighter for longer. Our outdoor fireplace comes with a poker making it easier for you to stoke up your fire without getting ash on your hands or burning your fingers. Air vents are built into the base of our brazier to prevent your terrace or patio from getting too hot.

If there is a nippy breeze on a summer’s evening and the barbecue is over, feel at ease knowing that you have your fire pit to keep you warm.
