OUR ADVICE

Chicken coops and runs come in many different sizes and designs. Our range of coops covers all the essentials. Roosting poles, nest boxes, and stable ramps are some of the features included in our chicken coops. Choosing the right coop for you will depend on the size of your garden and how many chickens you want to raise.

WHAT SIZE COOP DO I NEED?

If you have decided to raise hens for eggs, a simple chicken coop that can accommodate up to 4 chickens should suffice. They require little maintenance and will provide a comfortable home for your hens. Our wooden chicken coops are well-equipped to give your chickens an excellent quality of life. They can roost both inside and outside of the chicken house. There is plenty of space for them to roam and scratch around in the aviary area. It will be easy to tuck them in at night by sliding the door open to the house and guiding them up the ramp. Chickens have a natural inclination to go inside at nightfall and hop onto their roost. Although they might wander inside by themselves, chickens cannot see in the dark and may need some assistance. Keeping the coop near an outdoor light would be a practical idea. If you are breeding chickens and require more space, you should consider investing in a coop that can accommodate up to 8 chickens.

CLEANING THE CHICKEN COOP

Before you think about how you are going to clean your chicken coop, it is essential that you put down appropriate bedding for your poultry. Wood shavings are an efficient form of bedding. They absorb moisture and dry quickly. It is important to create a cosy ambience in the nesting area to encourage your chicken to lay and providing comfortable bedding is the perfect way to do so.

You should clean your chicken coop at least once a week. Our wooden coops have built-in, removable trays that make it easier for you to maintain your coop. There are a number of ways you can dispose of your chicken stools. Composting is a sustainable way of getting rid of the waste from your hens. You can also sell it to farmers or gardeners as it is a valuable way of fertilising crops. Don’t forget to clean and refill feeders and drinkers! If you get into a strict routine of cleaning and maintaining your coop on a weekly basis, your coop will remain pristine and fresh for longer.

Our chicken coops are made from quality, durable materials and are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. Sloped roofs made using bitumen felt protect your chicken house from rainwater. Galvanized steel and thick panels provide you with a robust shelter for your poultry.

USING AN INTEGRATED PLANTER

Our Campine chicken coop comes with an integrated planter. You can grow various plants and give your coop a more natural appearance. Hydrangeas or geraniums will add a splash of colour to your garden. You can avoid having to add soil to the planter by simply displaying some of your favourite potted plants in the wooden planter.

Once you have decided on the right chicken coop for your home, you can appreciate the benefits of freshly laid eggs and the uplifting sight of hens. There are many different breeds to choose from and if you are a chicken show enthusiast, you can house your premium Buff Orpington chickens in one of our luxury coops. Rhode Island Red is a breed of chickens that is extremely popular among beginners in the UK. They are friendly, feathered friends to have and are easy to rear. You should feed them with quality feed and expect to receive between 5 and 6 eggs per week in return.
